Old streets of Incheon

Rainy season is here and I am running out of places to go in Seoul! Incheon is a great place for a day trip since it's just 1 hour from Seoul by subway and you can use your t-money for public transport! The places I'm recommending are within walking distance from the stations so no bus transfers or taxis! Yeah!

Sudoguksan Museum of Housing and Living (수도국산달동네박물관)
Address: 51, Solbit-ro, Dong-gu, Incheon 인천광역시 동구 솔빛로 51 (송현동)
Operating Hours: 09:00 - 18:00, last admission is 30 minutes before closing
Closed: Every Monday, New Year's Day, Seollal, Chuseok
Entrance fee: 500krw
How to get there: Dongincheon station exit 4, walk towards Songhyeon Jayu market and walk straight for about 400m.
Walk along this street opposite the station

A remake of the streets of sudoguksan area in the 1970s. The museum is rather small and the exhibits are on one floor rather than two floors which I have read online. If you walk through the museum without looking at the houses, you'll need less than 3mins. But! When you include photography time, you'll probably need 45mins to 1 hour.
For those interested to find out about how the poor lived in the past, I'll recommend this museum.

Incheon Chinatown (인천 차이나타운)
Address: Seollin-dong / Bukseong-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon-si 인천 중구 선린동 , 북성동 일대
How to get there: Incheon Station
Just one stop away at Incheon station is the Chinatown area. It's much smaller compared to the Chinatown in Singapore, but still interesting nevertheless.
Gate to Chinatown

Once you get out from the only exit of the station, you will be able to see the grey gate on the opposite side of the road. Walk straight up, turn left, and you will find the third paeru (Seollinum gate 선린문).
You've reached Jayu park, where you can find the statue of Sir MacArthur, who led Operation Chromite, which led to the reversal of the Korean War in favor of South Korea.

From the square, follow the brick road down and you'll find the statue of Confucius up front and the mural street on the right.

I saw this group of cute Koreans trying to think of funny "Chinese" poses for their photos. Other than this, I saw kungfu poses too! Cute!!

Samgukji Mural street depicting scenes from China's "The Three Kingdoms"

十里香 (십리향)
Address: 인천광역시 중구 북성동2가 10-26 Tel: 032-762-5888
This was part of my itinerary, but I did what a typical Singaporean would do, join the queue if it's long enough.

The mandu (dumpling) is baked on the inside of a kiln, similar to how a naan is made. The red bean filling was not too sweet, but beware as it's very hot!

Sweet potato, Pumpkin and meat flavours are available too! One for 1,500krw except the meat (2,000krw).

Further down the street, I bought a stick of mutton for 1,000krw. It's a very small stick with 3 pieces of meat, but the cumin powder with mutton is delicious!

Jajangmyeon Museum (자장면 박물관)
Entrance fee: 1,000krw
If you are planning to visit the 3 museums (jjajangmyeon museum, modern architecture museum and port incheon museum), do get the combined ticket which is cheaper.
Filming location: Hwayuki/A Korean Odyssey (화유기) (Lee Seung-gi, Cha Seung-won, Oh Yeon-seo, Lee Hong-gi)
For those who are unaware, jjajangmyeon originated from China. I first knew about jjajangmyeon from the Korean drama the first shop of coffee prince. When I came to Korea 5 years ago, I had the chance to taste jjajangmyeon as my Korean unnie ordered delivery for us! I still remember when I saw the delivery man and the jjajangmyeon takeaway box!

Incheon Open Port Modern Architecture Museum
Entrance fee: 500krw
The museum is more like a huge room than a full-scale museum. Models of the buildings that existed before the Korean War are displayed here.
Filming Location: Dream High (드림하이) (Bae Suzy, Kim Soo-hyun, Ok Taec-yeon, Ham Eun-jung, Jang Woo-young, IU)

Taken from the website, "Incheon Art Platform (IAP, formally Jung-gu Arts and Cultural Center) is a multiplex cultural arts center located in Haen-dong, Jung-gu. The site was purchased and developed by Incheon Metropolitan City, and is transforming the turn of the century structures and nearby buildings as part of the old downtown restoration project. IAP operates under the patronage of the Incheon Arts and Culture Foundation with the artists-in-residency program at its core. The program fosters the creation of new art by supporting artists and research scholars from a variety of backgrounds."

Another location I had marked down in my to-go list before I went to Korea, and which I have totally forgotten when I went to Incheon. I happened to stumble upon it! Why I wanted to go there? It's one of the filming locations of Dream High, one of my favourite Korean dramas!

There were still a few more places I wanted to visit after my research, but due to lack of time, I had to give them a miss!
- The Memorial Hall for Incheon Landing Operation http://visitkorea.or.kr/enu/SI/SI_EN_3_1_1_1.jsp?cid=268183
- Wolmido http://www.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/SI/SI_EN_3_1_1_1.jsp?cid=264305 (where you can find the shooting gallery as seen in the ‘Descendants of the Sun’ drama (태양의 후예) (Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-kyo, Jin Goo, Kim Ji-won)

Neighbourhood map of the places I went to!

If you want to visit more places within a day, you may want to check out the Incheon City Tour bus! If not, a walking tour around the 2 stations like what I did is great as a day trip!
