Home to the picturesque Ewha Womans University (이화여자대학교) and shopping for the undergraduates, Ewha Dae Hakgyo (or Edae) is the place for a nice afternoon stroll in the university vicinity, cheap shopping and local eats.
How to get there: Ewha Woman's University Station Exit 2 or 3
I've been to Edae on several occasions, and the beautiful school compound never fails to attract me. It's like a ritual to walk around the school compound for a few quick snaps before the shopping starts.

The colonial style buildings is in stark contrast with the modern architecture of the walkway to the lecture halls and shops.
Enter the glass building for shops and high ceiling indoor areas for the students.
Where there are students, there's cheap shopping and roadside snacks! This is one of my favourite roadside snack, and is a must-eat everytime I'm at edae. It's a combination of marinated fried chicken, rice cake and hashbrowns drizzled with cheese sauce!
From exit 2, walk down the street of shops and you will find the roadside stall.
If you like, you can order a portion of just the chicken, rice cake or hashbrown.
1,000krw for the small cup, 2,000krw for the big cup or 5,000krw for the take-home pack
Korean Carp Bread or Bungeoppang (붕어빵) is a fish-shaped waffle filled with red bean. It is similar to the Japanese Taiyaki. In Korea, they also describe kids who resemble their parents a lot using 붕어빵.
They sell the bread 2,000krw for 10, but because I can't finish so many, the nice stall holder sold me 5 for 1,000krw. :)
Another waffle shop around the shopping area.
The waffle is the ultra crispy kind, with fillings of your choice. I had strawberry and cream and it was delicious!
And once your stomachs are filled, you have the energy for shopping! The area is filled with small shops and roadside stalls, with several cross junctions and small alleyways. Take about 1-2 hours to explore the area!
Happy shopping!
