It was a rainy Christmas day in Arrowtown. Not the best day to visit the town as most of the shops were closed. However due to the availability of the tours on other days we didn't have a choice. Most of the restaurants were closed or fully booked so it is advisable to book in advance if you are visiting during the holidays.

Thankfully the Postmasters Residence was opened for business! Reservation can be made via email. Do note that there's a 15% public holiday surcharge.

Family Amenities: Detachable High Chairs, Kids Menu
The interior is a bit cramped so it's not very stroller-friendly.

Miss Ting was given a kids menu on a paper which kept her occupied for a while.

Postmasters Platter $45 - I think most people will have this as a starter but this plus the soup was really enough for the 2 of us. I really liked the homemade oat cakes and spiced nuts! We skipped the chicken liver pate though.
Soup of the day - Tomato Soup $12
From the kids' menu - Steamed veggies and rice $8 - Ended up mummy ate most of the veggies. Miss Ting was more interested in the rice and the oat cakes.

The bowl is really small, like the size of a typical Chinese rice bowl. Expensive if you ask me but I guess it's good enough to be able to find rice dishes!

The quiet streets of Arrowtown on Christmas day
Love the vintage buildings of the gold rush village

We also visited the Chinese settlement which is a partially restored 1880s village of Chinese gold miners. It's not the typical Chinese buildings you would expect to see, but I guess they had to make do with whatever materials they could find. Slightly eerie if you ask me.

Took this photo of the donation box with Chinese and Korean words. It's interesting how I can read all 3 languages on the box.

An outhouse with no door. My ultimate nightmare.

It's quite a short walk to the last building in the village, and a good nature walk for little toddlers (lots of open space, leaves, grass..) but beware of bugs! I got bitten by an unknown bug (looked like a mosquito) and it left a sting mark for a few days and then a permanent scar (like a needle mark) on the back of my hand after that.) Note to self to apply a mozzie patch too for the next nature walk.
