One of the most nutritious dishes you can have on Jeju Island is the abalone porridge, or Jeonbokjuk (전복죽/真鲷粥). Being surrounded by waters, it's no doubt that the seafood you taste is one of the freshest!

We had a taste of the famous abalone porridge at a small restaurant near Cheonjiyeon Falls (천제연폭포/天帝渊瀑布). The weird thing was, the dish was not on the English menu, but was up on the menu board! Good thing that I checked the Korean name beforehand, and I can read Hangul :D

The porridge contained a generous amount of abalone for the price (KRW 12,000), and it was really fresh! It's no doubt one of the must trys when you're on Jeju Island. The portion was really huge too. My usual breakfast consists of one cup of cereal, so it was too much for me to finish. It seems like the portions in Korea are generally huge! I wonder how Korean girls stay so slim!

The first stop for the day was Manjanggul Cave, on the North-eastern side of the island.

Once again we took highway 1131! Though it was still drizzling, you can't ignore the beauty of the forest tunnel!

Manjanggul Cave (만장굴) is one of the 3 designated UNESCO World Heritage sites on Jeju Island, together with Hallasan Mountain and Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. Manjanggul Cave is approximately 13km long, but only 1km is open to public. The annual temperature inside the tunnels is 11-21℃, and can be quite cold when it rains, especially with the raindrops from the ceiling of the tunnels!

One of features in the cave is the Turtle Stone. It's famous as it's shaped like Jeju Island!

At the end of the tunnel, you'll be greeted by the 7.6m tall lava column, formed by lava flowing down from the hole in the ceiling. This highlight of the tunnel is also the turning point for the tour.

Next up, we drove about 23km east to reach the eastern coast of the Island.

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak (182 meters high) rose from the sea in a series of volcanic eruptions beginning over 100,000 years ago. The site resembles an old fortress on a coastal cliff and was originally a volcanic island but was later connected as sand and gravel accumulated in between. The sunrise seen from the peak is considered one of the most fascinating scenic views in Jeju. (source: visitkorea.or.kr)
The hike up the peak was tiring, but definitely worth it, as you get to see a bird's eye view of Jeju Island. It was a cloudy and rainy day when I went, I would imagine the view would be nicer with blue skies and fluffy white clouds!

The crater at the top of the peak is about 600m in diameter and 90m high.

On your way down from the peak, on your right hand side, you'll be able to see some buildings near the coast, where you'll find the famous Jeju women divers, or haenyeo.

And of course, fresh seafood!

On the way to our next location, we passed by the coast where we were able to see another view of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak! I guess this is the good thing about driving yourselves around. You get to stop anytime for photo taking! It looks like there's smoke coming out of the crater!
