Camellia Island - Jangsado Sea Park 장사도 해상공원 / 长蛇岛海上公园
Jangsado is a tiny island in Tongyeong-si. The island was made popular with the filming of "You Who Came from the Stars/별에서 온 그대" early this year! The island is not easy to get to, with the limited information online. We missed the second and last ferry on a weekday (2.30pm), and thankfully caught the first ferry in on the next day.
*Update: uncontrollably fond (함부로 애틋하게) episode 6 was filmed here too!!

There's only 2 timings on weekdays, the latest one being at 2.30pm.

Guide on the ship
If you want to feel the wind in your hair, you can sit on the deck after about 10 minutes. The guide will announce when you are able to go out to the deck. For ladies, remember to tie up your hair and don't wear any hats!
Map from the jangsado website. Basically, follow the numbers around the island, and give yourself about 15 minutes to climb down to the dock from no. 17.
While we were on the way to the island, I kept wondering why are the locals in their colourful hiking clothes. It's a filming location, right? We soon realised why when we reached the dock. Right in front of us was a daunting huge forested hill.

One of the observatory platforms on the island. You know what you have to do to get this view.

Camellias bloom in winter, from Dec to Feb. I can imagine it to be so pretty when the red flowers are in full bloom.
Amphitheatre where they kissed!
Even without it being a filming location, I'll definitely still make a trip there, given how beautiful the views are!

Mascot of the island - Silkworm! The island's name is derived from its long shape, resembling a silkworm!
Yet another filming location, where Do Min Joon and Chun Song Yi took a selca together.
Given that the trees have grown over the last few months, we could barely tell the angle where the selca was taken from.
Hands with cartoon characters all over
Rose tunnel
After you see the rose tunnel, you can start your descent to the departure dock! It's about 100m away.
Going to Jangsado definitely completes our workout target for the day! Remember to wear comfortable shoes!

how much time will it cost you for this tour including travel time and tour within the vicinity itself? iam planning to have this tour in the morning then schedule another one on the afternoon but i am not sure if there will be sufficient time.
ReplyDeleteHi there, you can only stay on the island for 2 hours as the ferry timings are fixed. The total tour including ferry ride is about 4 hours.
DeleteIf you are going on a weekend the earliest ferry is at 9am. For weekdays I believe the earliest ferry is about 10am or 10.30am, and there's only 2 ferries on weekdays.
Hi there thanks for this! Did you stay overnight somewhere or did you head straight back to Seoul? Would you mind sharing where you spent the night if you did? 9 hours on a bus on the same day sounds really tiring. Am planning a trip there next month and thinking of flying in to Busan and head to Jangsado from Busan. Also what is the name of the other ferry terminal that doesn't go to Jangsado so that I can avoid it? I just called the Korean Tourism hotline and they told me to take a ferry from Tongyeong Ferry Terminal. Not sure if they are giving me the wrong instructions/directions.
ReplyDeleteMany Thanks in advance and I appreciate any help I can get.
Hello! I stayed overnight in Tongyeong as I agree travelling to and fro Seoul as a daytrip will be too tiring. Travelling from Busan will be fine though. I stayed at VIP motel near the bus terminal. You may refer to my post here for more info http://travellerelf.blogspot.sg/2014/06/tongyeong-travels-dongpirang-mural.html?m=1
DeleteThe other one is called Tongyeong ferry terminal. Remember to go to the Excursion Ship Station.
Feel free to let me know if you have more questions! Hope you'll enjoy your time there!
Hi hi! Thanks so much for all your info! Am now exploring getting a ferry from Geoje to Jangsado as an option. I extended my trip by 5 days and have some time to explore. Will be in Seoul for 11 days in total. All because of Love From The Stars! My first Korean drama and I got hooked! :) Thanks again! Will check out your post on Tong Yeong
ReplyDeleteI love that drama too!! In fact I watched all of Kim Soo Hyun's dramas twice though I can't say I'm a big fan. You may want to visit Hakrim coffee at Hyehwa station too, where they filmed the scenes in the cafe. There's a mural village near the station that's worth a visit too (:
DeleteHey there, I'm planning to go there next year. can you guide me on how to get to tongyeong terminal from Busan Station? and also you stated that there's only 2 timings on weekdays (ferry), the latest one being at 2.30pm. when is the earliest one?
ReplyDeleteThanx a bunch!
Hi there! From Busan, go to Sasang Station Exit 5, walk towards the Busan Intercity Bus Terminal. Take the intercity bus to Tongyeong. The timing of the buses can be found here: http://map.naver.com/local/siteview.nhn?stationId=3601090&theme=terminal#infoTab=timeTable&eStationID=4000124 (First column - Departure time, Second column - Arrival time).
DeleteFor the timings on weekdays, unfortunately I don't have the information on the earlier ferry timing. You may want to call the ferry terminal (055-638-1122) or the Korean travel hotline +82-2-1330.
Hi do you know what is the fastest way i can get there from Busan (Hauendae area)? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHello! You can catch an express bus from Busan Seobu Intercity Bus Terminal (Sasang metro station) to Tongyeong bus terminal. The fast bus takes about 1h 40mins and there's more than 10 buses a day. It costs about 12,000krw.
DeleteHi XJ
ReplyDeleteWould like to ask if we should buy the ferry tickets in advance or onsite? Maybe traveling down to Busan just for this. :)
Hello, I'd suggest buying on the spot because it's quite inconvenient to get to the ferry terminal and there's not much near it. However there's only a few timings per day so do reach earlier :)
DeleteHi XJ
DeleteThanks for the fast reply!
Sorry just one last question - the return bus trip to the bus terminal. Do we take the bus from the opposite direction or is the bus service a loop?
Cheers,
Cla
Hi Cla, you need to take the bus from the opposite direction. From the ferry terminal you do not need to cross the road. Have fun!!!
DeleteHi XJ
DeleteThank you for your reply. I shall try to find my way there and back! Cheers.
