For visitors to Korea who wish to stay for more than 90 days, or for language students like me, application for the Alien Registration Card (ARC) is required. The ARC must be made within 90 days of entry to Korea and is valid for 1 year. This card allows you to purchase postpaid plans for your mobile phone, and may be required for things like online shopping!
Tel : 82-2-2650-6212~5 / Fax: 82-2-2650-6295
How to Get There:
Subway : Omokgyo Station (Line 5, Exit 7)
Bus : 5012,6619, 6624, 6640, 6620, 517
For application of the ARC, you will require the following:
- Original passport
- Photocopy of the passport details page and visa page (Photocopy service available on the third floor)
- 1 photograph taken within the last 6 months
- Letter of enrolment to the school (since I'm taking Korean Language class at SNU)
- Application form (which you can get at the Office)
- 20,000 KRW application fee (which you should pay at the automated teller machine (ATM) on the left of the reception before your queue number is called)
The ARC application is on the first floor of the building. Expect a long wait during the first few days of school! We arrived at 3pm and there were 100 applicants in queue! The volunteer officer who helped me with the payment tried to put us in the student-only queue after we asked what will happen if the queue number doesn't reach ours before closing time. In the end the normal queue was faster and he put us back into the queue. Bit of a drama there but we managed to settle the application before 6pm!
On the application form it says that you will need to purchase a revenue stamp. However you can just pay for the application fee at the ATM and keep the receipt of payment!
Application form available at the office. In some websites it is stated that the form can be downloaded. However the one I downloaded was slightly different from the one at the office, so we used the one at the office instead!
Random - Spectacles for those with bad eyesight!
Now we wait for 3 weeks to collect the card at the office or get it delivered to your address.
