Getting to Hallstatt is complicated but it is definitely worth it. The picturesque small village is exceptionally beautiful during winter when snow capped mountains surround you.
The journey from Salzburg to Hallstatt took us 2.5 hours via train, bus and ferry. 2.5 hours if you have timed your journey properly. It could be longer if you miss your connection, or could be faster if you rent a car.

We stopped by the market square to have a quick bite. Since it was Christmas, Christmas markets are all around, including the quiet Hallstatt!
Though the Christmas market was rather small, we enjoy our sausages with sauerkraut and a cup of hot wine. Read more on the Hallstatt Christmas Market here.
The rest of the day was spent walking around, taking in the magnificent views that surround us, and window shopping! Definitely worth the long journey there from Salzburg.
Salzburg literally means Salt Fortress, and salt mines are part of the attraction list when you visit Hallstatt. Unfortunately tours don't run during winter. While shopping, we found some shops selling salt and minerals! We were definitely curious about the pinkish salt sold there, and bought one to try. Erm I can't tell the difference between the normal salt and the salt I bought. Haha!

Do you see santa?
Hallstatt is so beautiful, I definitely hope to visit again when I'm as old as the couple sitting in front of us. :)
