Jeonju Hanok Village has 700 traditional Korean houses, with many still home to locals today. The Hanok Village is a popular tourist attraction in Korea, and I'll strongly recommend it for a day trip or an overnight stay. The quiet traditional village with pretty cafes and restaurants makes it the perfect day trip location for those who love the Korean history and culture, and delicious Korean food.

How to get there: From Seoul Nambu Bus Terminal, take the intercity bus bound for Jeonju (11,600 KRW). The journey takes about 3 hours. Alternatively, there's free shuttle bus from Seoul to Jeonju from March to end August 2014!

From the Jeonju bus terminal, take a cab to the Hanok Village (about 10 mins, 5,000krw). Alternatively you can take public buses (as shown in blue below).

Where to stay: I stayed at a traditional Korean house (Hanok) called Ilrakdang Hanok House. You can book the accommodation on agoda.com. See my post on my review of the accommodation.

How to get around: The attractions are in close proximity to the Hanok Village, so I'll recommend walking! Lots of photo-taking opportunities around the area full of traditional architecture. You can also refer to Jeonju guide for more tour recommendations.

I've always loved bibimbap, and although I was already there for 3 months, my Korean was not that good yet. I belatedly realised that I had ordered beef sashimi bibimbap. Then again, I think I wouldn't have ordered it if I knew what it was. It was a good experience, and I really love Jeonju bibimbap. What's the difference? It's so pretty and the ingredients used are definitely different from the normal bibimbap you see in Singapore, or even in other Korean cities.

We were served a full hanjeongsik (in my opinion), with various side dishes we couldn't finish. Definitely worth the 27,000krw we paid in total.

Tteokgalbi (Korean beef patty) or short ribs is said to have originated from Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do. Korean Galbi rib meat is tenderized and marinated in a sweet sauce, and cooked with onions and mushrooms. This is another must-try when you are in Jeonju. The meat is so tender and yummy!! We paid 26,000krw for this.

Another pretty cafe along the main street in the Hanok Village. The ambience is really nice, and good for people watching if you sit along the side facing the main road. The cafe owner has a really huge dog that I'll call a lion. It was wandering around the cafe quietly and just resting and looking outside. Super cute!

Hello! Thanks so much for visiting my blog and glad you enjoyed reading my posts 😊

If you are referring to the airport bus, typically you can pay when you board the bus.

    Hi,

I really loved your blog. I'm planning on visiting Jeonju for 1 Day Trip. Are the places you went to easy to reach by walk or do you need other means of transportation to get by? Thank you for answering.

Hi Angel, glad that you enjoyed my blog :) most places mentioned are walkable distance from each other. It may take 20~30mins for some places, but I enjoyed strolling and looking around at my own pace! Alternatively you may want to consider taking a taxi since it's not too far.taxis are quite affordable. Let me know if I can help!

Hello! That's steamed egg (gyeranjjim) and it came with the bimbimbap as one of the side dishes :) I visited nambu market but it was really a local market selling veggies, dry goods, etc. It's a filming location for Kim Tak Gu though (if you're a fan). Personally I didn't visit any night markets, only walked around Jeonju shopping street at night :)

Thanks for all of the helpful information! Do you happen to know if the shops in the hanok village are open every day, including Sunday? Is the village very crowded on the weekends?

Hi, I was there from Mon to Thu so I can't be sure about the weekends, but some shops and museums were closed on Monday and Tuesday, which is typical in Korea. I would expect weekends to be crowded as it's an easy day trip for locals. Hope it helps!

      Hi there, there's 2 options:
      1) Take KTX from Busan to Dae Jeon, then take an express bus from Dae Jeon to Jeonju (2h 40mins, 37,300krw)
      2) Take an express bus from Busan to Jeonju (3h10min, 17,000krw)

      Have fun!!

    Hi,

I'll be travelling to Seoul from Busan via the KTX.

I'm planning to include a 1-day 1-night trip to Jeonju. As it's my first time, would you recommend stopping by Jeonju first from Busan for a day, and then leaving to Seoul the next morning, or to head straight to Seoul from Busan, and then get the bus to Jeonju for a day?

    Many thanks in advance.

Hi Nancy, personally I would go to Jeonju from Busan, then go to Seoul the next day, if you prefer to take bus (cheaper too!) like me.

There's no direct ktx from Busan to Jeonju, so if you prefer to take ktx, then I'd suggest to go to Seoul first, then go to Jeonju by ktx. If it's an option I would travel light to Jeonju.

Hello! I'm going to visit JeonJu next week via KTX for a day trip. May i know how do i get to JeonJu Hanok Village when i alight from KTX and back to the KTX Station back to Seoul from the Hanok Village at the end of the day?

Hi, there's buses outside of the station that you can take to the Hanok village, but it involves about 16mins of walking. I'd suggest taking a taxi as it'll cost about 5,900krw based on daum map :)

Can I just say 'Hanok Village' in English to the driver?

Some of the taxi drivers speak English (they have a sticker on the taxi) so you can try, if not, show them this "한옥 마을" or say "han-og ma-eul" :)
