If you're in Jeju in spring, be sure to look out for the Canola flowers (Rape Seed Flowers/油菜花/유채꽃) in full bloom! We happened to drive past this sea of canola flowers, and just had to stop for some phototaking. We met a Singaporean couple taking wedding photos there too! I salute the bride for walking around with the heavy gown on, and even taking jumping shots. The weather was really hot that day, so hot that I had sunburn for the next few days, and am still very dark now after 1 month!

Sanbangsan Lava Dome (산방산/山房山) (064-760-6321) & Yongmeori Cliff (용머리해안) (064-794-2940)
제주특별자치도 서귀포시 안덕면 사계리 산16

Operating Hours
Winter 8:30 - 18:00
Summer 8:30 - 19:00

Admission Fees
Adults (19-64): 2,500 won / 1,500 won (Group of 10 or more)
Children (7-18): 2,000 won / 1,000 won (Group of 10 or more)

If you are driving there, take note that there are 2 carparks just in front of the dome. Just in front of the ticket booth, there is a paid parking area, and if you drive just 10-20m further in, there is a free parking area. Strange arrangement.

The lave dome is a result of a violent volcanic eruption over 700,000 to 800,000 years ago, forming from the slow effusion of very viscous lava from a volcanic vent. The dome rises 395m above sea level, and is a rare natural landform in Korea.

Within the dome is the Sanbangsa Temple 山房窟寺(산방굴사), a buddhist site that is popular among locals. It is about 10-15 minutes climb up the mountain. There is a pool of water that is formed by water dripping from the ceiling, and it is said to have healing properties. Cups are available for visitors to drink the water.

Rock pile near the temple. Some believe that if you make a wish and add to the rock pile, and if the rock pile does not fall, your wish will come true.
From the carpark, walk towards the south to reach the Yongmeori Cliff. The whole stretch of the coast is probably 1-2km long, and you can find hae nyeo (해녀) or female divers along the coast selling fresh seafood.

The area is built up over a few million years, and is made up of Sa-am stacks. The erosion of the rocks over the years have created really beautiful rock structures as you can see below.
Similar to other areas, the water is really clear and pretty!
